Letter to the Editor
Dear Sh. Alok Ji,
My namaskar to Dadhichi Deh Dan Samiti . My name is Rohit Nath and I am here to share my experience with you.
Both my parents pledged to donate their body after death. My Father, who himself was a doctor, left for his heavenly abode in December 2012. The whole family was obviously grief stricken. It was my mother who gathered strength, collected herself and informed me of my father’s will document. With a heavy heart, I called up my elder brother, who was on his way from Haridwar, and we all decided to honor my dad’s will. Our neighbour, Sh. B.M. Pant helped us and called up Sh. Alok Kumar ( President of Dadhichi Deh Dan Samiti). Promptly Sh. Alok ji’s organization sprang into action and in 2 hours, the Eye Surgeon was at our place along with his assistant. I was nervously watching the procedure of eye donation. The next morning, the van from the GTB Medical College carried my dad’s body respectfully to the Anatomy Department. I and my brother met the Head of the Department who was very nice and talked to us very warmly. The conversation was consoling and made us feel so proud of our parents. The feeling was almost like we had completed a Mahayajna.
All our doubts and apprehensions had vanished and we were pleasantly surprised with the efficiency with which the Dadhidhi Deh Dan Samiti operates.
Last July, I lost my Mom who was suffering from an illness for several years. It was 12:30 a.m. when she breathed her last. I and my brother informed our extended family and decided to carry forward my mom’s will. I was a bit hesitant in calling the Samiti and waking someone up at such an unearthly hour. Sh. Pant, our neighbour, again helped us and called up the Samiti. Sh. Alok Ji received the call promptly. I salute the organization that works round the clock and whose great associates receive the sad news of deaths any time of the day or night. And above all, they, without getting perturbed keep doing their job selflessly, consoling troubled people and ensuring that the wish of those that are no more is held paramount and honored.
I have also pledged to donate my body/ organs after death and I congratulate all who have similarly pledged. You all have opted to discard traditional and ritualistic thinking and instead adopt modern ways that benefit humankind.
